The Pink Team
The members of our Moonbots subgroup of The Pink Team come from all different backgrounds, all with some different skill sets- some are also heavily involved with drama, video/ photography, teamwork/ team spirit exercises and even ROTC, which we all have found to contribute to the overall picture in STEM related programs/future careers. Having some acting skills could help with business presentations, or just with presenting your ideas so that they spread. Knowledge with photography allows you to be familiar with that side of technology and could also help you, let’s say, keep record of an experiment with the photographs acting as proof or great references. It is also well known how being able to work with a team and encourage members is incredibly helpful for assisting any collaboration on a project. Two of our members’ experience in ROTC has exemplified their leadership skills. So even with our “differences”, and even with being from various stretches of our county (different cities), we are able to form a unified team where each member has something to contribute for the task to be completed. We all have chosen to pursue our interest in robotics. Each of us has been apart of the FIRST Robotics team, The Pink Team (233), and each member is at least going into her second season! All of us have been involved in helping FIRST LEGO League by hosting tournaments, mentoring teams, and running the majority of regional tournaments in Florida (as well as the State Tournament). Some of us, having been a part of a FLL team in the past, really know the inspiration that comes with being involved in STEM related programs at such young ages. Nowadays, Emma has been excelling with programming and Kaitlin with mechanics. Both have been working directly with the FIRST robots. Then, Bethany and Brynne have been working with the other end of it all- the organization, teamwork, and computer/online technology (be it spreading the word through social networks or maintaining a website). Being our very first year, our ultimate goal with participating in this program is to gain a whole new learning experience- one in which the whole group will know at least the basics of CAD, how to make videos/ work with live feeds, and build a complete robot by the end of it all. In this way, we are increasing our skill sets and those who haven’t had the chance to work with FRC robots, yet, are getting an introductory first hand experience! Then, it’s also an opportunity to work on a robotics project together without the help of a mentor when it comes to the design and build of the robot. We still have our team captain, of course, but we are viewing this as the chance to take the knowledge we’ve already learned and implement it in our Moonbots creation.
